What is the connection between the Sawmill, Hyrax Hill, and the Market?
Your trading desk on the left buys and sells commodities whose physical supply is generated in real-time by the hyrax colony on the right! Hyraxes in the forest fell timber, while hyraxes assigned to the steam sawmill slice logs into valuable sawn planks. The more planks produced, the more inventory you have to dump onto the market at peak prices.
How does the Verreaux's Eagle raid work?
The black eagle (Aquila verreauxii) is a specialist predator that often relies heavily on hyraxes, although diet proportions vary by habitat. When an eagle dives, unshielded workers panic and production halts. Assigning a hyrax to Sentry Crag uses its umbraculum—a specialized iris projection that shades the eye—to spot raptors early. Trigger the General Alarm to dive into crevices or fire the fictional Sawmill Flak to blast offcuts into the sky.
Why is Petrified Hyraceum so expensive?
Hyraxes repeatedly use communal latrines. In dry shelters, the accumulated material can preserve long environmental records; fossil middens have been used to reconstruct tens of thousands of years of climate history. Hyraceum has also appeared as an animalic material in perfumery, but its extreme price and trading role here are fictional game mechanics.
What happens on Day 30?
The mercantile season wraps up after 30 business days. If your net worth exceeds 20,000 §, you achieve the Titanohyrax Tycoon Victory, securing the prehistoric megafauna sanctuary. If you are crushed by the loan shark's 8% daily compounding debt, you face foreclosure. You can also continue playing indefinitely in sandbox mode!
